Job Title: Director of Music

Organization: St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, Grand Rapids, Michigan

Compensation: This is a three-fourths to full-time position. Compensation is $65,000 – $75,000 plus benefits (includes health insurance, pension, generous PTO package, disability insurance, and life insurance).

St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, founded 189 years ago, is a welcoming and affirming community of faith in a vibrant urban community. The church is the oldest operating building in the city of Grand Rapids and has been an interactive partner with the Grand Rapids community for decades. St. Mark’s is the largest Episcopal Church in Western Michigan and has long been recognized for its choirs, music offerings, and free concert series. In parishioner surveys,
music is one of the primary reasons cited for attendance and membership at St. Mark’s.

The church organ is a 4 manual 71 rank tracker-action organ built by J.W. Walker and installed in 2004.

Job Description:
We are seeking a Music Director who is both a musician and a leader. This person will be expected to continue the tradition of renowned music at St. Mark’s while developing and implementing a diverse musical program that combines the deepest traditions of the Episcopal Church with the breadth of Christian expression. 

Regular duties include providing music for all liturgies, rehearsing and directing the adult and bell choirs, managing the Sacred Sounds concert series (four free concerts open to the public each year), and attending to budgeting and administrative tasks.

Applicants should have

  • A degree in music education, music performance or equivalent experience and training.
  • An active Christian faith in alignment with Episcopal theology and St. Mark’s mission.
  • Five years previous experience in a church setting.
  • Proven leadership experience in a music role; experience aligning the components of a music program with each other and the church’s mission.
  • Strong knowledge of Christian hymns and music and the Anglican choral tradition.
  • Demonstrated understanding of music theory, composition and performance practices.

Diocesan Staff | Finance Associate for Congregational Support (Lay or Clergy)

Position Summary

The primary role of the Finance Associate for Congregational Support is to provide direct support to congregations in the financial and human resource areas and support the Chief Financial Officer in some diocesan financial accounting and processes (especially to maintain appropriate internal controls).

Specifically:

  1. Coordinate reception of and support for congregations in filing parochial reports
  2. Coordinate reception of and support for congregations in filing congregational audits/financial reviews
  3. Benefits Specialist (assisting CFO/Benefits Administrator)
  4. Member of diocesan staff’s Congregational Support Team and staff liaison to a designated group of congregations (approximately 8)
  5. Support treasurers and congregational leaders regarding best/promising practices for finance and benefits
  6. Complete basic accounting functions as directed by Chief Financial Officer

Compensation and Hours

The position is part-time, 25 hrs/week

Annual compensation – $45,500

Continuing Education – $1,500 (reimbursement)

Diocesan Staff | Manager for Camping Ministry

Overview

The Manager for Camping Ministry coordinates registration, administrative tasks, and operational logistics for all camping programs for children, youth, and families in the Episcopal Diocese of the Great Lakes. This is a half-time position, averaged across the year, with the bulk of the work taking place leading up to and during the peak camp season (May through August). This person works closely with the Director for Formation & Camping and seasonal program co-directors to ensure programs operate smoothly and align with the diocesan mission and values.

Supervised by: Director for Formation and Camping

Positions supervised by this individual: Seasonal program co-directors, Seasonal staff, and volunteers

Location: Primarily remote with required in-person presence during camp weeks, key planning periods, and the Annual Diocesan Convention.

Compensation: $35,568 annually, paid bi-weekly for hours worked 

Job Type: Half-time (approximately 10 hours per week during off-season, increasing to full-time leading up to and during peak camp seasons in May-August)

St. John's Episcopal Church, Midland | Director of Operations

St. John’s Episcopal Church is seeking to hire a 30-hour-per-week, exempt Director of Operations for a term of three years to help build a strong administrative foundation to support mission, ministry, communications, and growth. This position will work closely with the Rector, staff, and lay leadership to strengthen internal systems while also helping St. John’s share its story more effectively through strategic communications, digital presence, and community engagement.

The Director of Operations will oversee daily operations, support staff and volunteer coordination, lead internal and external communications, and help develop sustainable systems that allow clergy and ministry leaders to focus on their areas of call. This role is both strategic and collaborative—ideal for someone who is organized, relational, systems-minded, and passionate about helping organizations thrive and be seen.

Position Summary

The Director of Operations is a key leadership role that combines administrative coordination with strategic communication and storytelling. The DOO will help strengthen workflow, planning, financial and facilities support, and digital and public presence, ensuring that St. John’s operates smoothly, communicates clearly, and is well represented in the community. This is a 30-hour-per-week position with regular in-person presence required. Salary and benefits are commensurate with experience. The position is currently approved for a term of three years.
