Second Diocesan Convention

The primary graphic of the image is a stylized illustration of water with three shades of blue squiggles that are grouped together to look like a lake with gently waving water. On the left side of the image is the shield of the diocese which features a two-sailed ship cutting boldly through the waves in front of a sky with white fluffy clouds and three stars, one of which is larger than the other two. The right side of the image features stylized text in the two darkest shades of blue from the water graphic. In all caps, in the lighter of the two shades, it reads "WAY." Weaving and waving out of that word in a darker blue with wave-like letter flourishes, the text reads "Waters." Finally, the bottom of the graphic reads, "A WAY IN THE WATERS" and "CONVENTION 2 - OCTOBER 24-25, 2025." The overall effect of the graphic is of both calm and movement, forward motion and peace.

Convention Business

Budget

“Budgets are moral documents.” That phrase, often attributed to the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., encapsulates the ways in which our community values for the work we want to do in our communities are on full display in our budget. Passing the next fiscal year (January – December) budget is a primary and canonically-required business task of our diocesan convention each year. At the heart of our budget, we can see the decisions we’re making to help each other and parishes across our diocese not just survive, but thrive in the work of embodying the love of Christ in our times and spaces.

Because our budget is not a stagnant spreadsheet but a living document, it is vital that our entire diocese participates in the work of understanding and contributing to our fiscal planning. Everyone – not just clergy and not just delegates! – can exercise agency to help in this process. To that end, new this year are two budget town hall meetings in August. These meetings, separate and in addition to our pre-convention meetings, are open to everyone in our diocese.

More information – including a big picture overview of the budget creation and approval timeline and the draft of a document from our Finance Committee which will be shared with Diocesan Council in advance of their August budgeting meeting – will be shared out widely in the coming weeks. But, for now, mark your calendars for our two budget town hall meetings, each of which will take place on Zoom.

Resolutions

A [resolution is a] proposed action or decision that is to be considered by a legislative body such as… a diocesan convention... The legislative vote is taken only on the substance of the resolution, which follows the word ‘Resolved’ in the working of the resolution. Reasons, intentions, and justifications for resolutions may be included in a statement of explanation that follows the resolution. This information provides legislative history for future interpretation, but it is not included in the formal resolution.

Resolutions may be proposed by four clergy and four laypeople using the form linked below. All resolutions will be reviewed by the Resolutions Review Committee.

The deadline for resolutions to be considered at our second convention is August 26.

The Co-Chairs of the Resolutions Committee are the Revs. Kay Houck and Nancy Mayhew.
