Our Open Community
We’re not gatekeepers. Belonging in our community of the Episcopal Diocese of the Great Lakes doesn’t require you to sign a form, make a donation, believe a certain way, act a certain way or think a certain way. Our community is open to all because, really, it’s not our community at all. This is God’s community. We believe that each of us is made in the image of God and each of us is loved deeply and irrevocably by God, so we all matter, we all belong. You matter. You belong.
We’re an open-minded and open-hearted community. We strive to be a “big tent” church where people of all different faith expressions and experiences can belong together in common love, prayer and worship. Bring your doubts. Bring your questions. Bring your intellect. In fact, bring your full self with all of your identities – your socioeconomic experience, your gender expression(s), your favorite football team (Go Blue! and Go Green! Go White!), your sexual orientation, your career, your race, your culture, your fears, your favorite deviled egg recipe (plllleeeeeasssee, especially if you use that good mustard), your level of intro-/extro-version, your good faith experiences, your bad religious experiences, your hopes, your singing voice or your tone-deaf ear, bring your whole self. You don’t have to tamp down any part of who you are to belong. We’re here to celebrate, love, welcome and include your whole beautiful, made-in-God’s-image self.
