After the unjust arrest of 18-year-old Ernesto, who was legally in the U.S. under Special Immigrant Juvenile status, Rev. Dr. Steven Pankey of Christ Episcopal Church in Bowling Green, KY, helped organize an emergency prayer vigil, drawing 100 community members in just over a day to call attention to ICE’s actions and advocate for justice. The vigil, coordinated with local pastors and civic leaders, emphasized Ernesto’s humanity, engaged the wider public through prayer, media outreach, and candle lighting, and sparked deeper reflection and activism within participating congregations.

Fr. Mike Wernick serves as Ecumenical and Interreligious Officer for our diocese which means he works in spaces of cooperation and shared ministry across Christian denominations and across different religions. From time to time, he shares important updates from this work with us, reminding us of our values of shared ministry and shared love and care for the world, values which transcend markers of religious difference.
