On March 12, an attacker drove a vehicle into Temple Israel in West Bloomfield Township. All children, staff, and congregants are safe — but the wounds are deep, and they echo the recent attack in Grand Blanc.

Our Standing Committee has issued a pastoral response calling us to prayer, to solidarity with our neighbors, and to the promises of our Baptismal Covenant.

Prayer Vigil After An Unjust Arrest by ICE

After the unjust arrest of 18-year-old Ernesto, who was legally in the U.S. under Special Immigrant Juvenile status, Rev. Dr. Steven Pankey of Christ Episcopal Church in Bowling Green, KY, helped organize an emergency prayer vigil, drawing 100 community members in just over a day to call attention to ICE’s actions and advocate for justice. The vigil, coordinated with local pastors and civic leaders, emphasized Ernesto’s humanity, engaged the wider public through prayer, media outreach, and candle lighting, and sparked deeper reflection and activism within participating congregations.
