Diocesan Staff: Week of September 14

One of the best parts of being on Diocesan Staff is that we we get to travel around this very pleasant peninsula to connect with people, parishes, and communities. AND, even when we are in our offices and not on the road, we still get to do cool and meaningful work to support Episcopal ministries in our diocese. Here's a look at what some of us have been up to September 8-14.

Alan James, Interim Executive Officer

Another Sunday, another wonderful small church doing amazing things. 27 of us gathered for worship and fellowship at Trinity West Branch. The food bank that they host and support (Ogemaw County Christian Fellowship Food Pantry), gives away food to 60 families every week. Their children’s garden right next to the city’s river walk is a place of beauty and creative play for young children. Their other outreach efforts include supporting women’s shelter, Salvation Army, animal shelter, free little library, hosting an AlAnon meeting, and much more. It was a joy to have time with them this morning.

Tracie Little, Director for Vocational Discernment and Equipping

Last Sunday I worshipped with the amazing folks of St. John’s, Dryden. Nestled in the midst of farm country, this congregation supports local schools – both a first grade class where one of their folks works and the local high school. In addition to their school supplies ministry at the high school, they also are supporting the technical computer lab, giving $10,000 for 3-D printers and computers to support students who don’t have access at home. What a joyful, spirit-filled morning.

Rachel Rose, Director for Communication

What a joy it was to spend time with Bishop Anne here on the ground in Michigan this week! She came in for just a couple of days primarily to represent our diocese and denomination at installation of Bishop Julie Schneider-Thomas, the new Bishop for the North/West Lower Michigan Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America. While she was here, she also preached and presided at the Celebration of New Ministry for the Rev. Jed Fox and St. Mark’s Grand Rapids and we snuck in a little bit of Michigan exploration, making it to an orchard for fresh cider and a donut and to one of our gorgeous Great Lakes!

If you missed her on this visit, fear not! She’ll be back very soon as we gather for our Second Diocesan Convention as the Episcopal Diocese of the Great Lakes. You can also catch her every Thursday at noon for Noonday Prayers.
