Diocesan Staff: Week of August 24

One of the best parts of being on Diocesan Staff is that we we get to travel around this very pleasant peninsula to connect with people, parishes, and communities. AND, even when we are in our offices and not on the road, we still get to do cool and meaningful work to support Episcopal ministries in our diocese. Here's a look at what some of us have been up to August 18-24.

Nurya Parish, Canon for the Northern Collaborative, Creation Care, and Beloved Community

This weekend was hopping at St Peter’s Episcopal Chapel in Leland! I think this community – which comes to life only in the summertime – has the highest number of weekend liturgies in our diocese. This year they offer services at 5 pm Saturday and 8am, 9am, and 10:30am on Sunday – and today they ran out of seats at the 9am service. They rent space at the public library, which means setting out the chairs and altar table every single week. Visiting reminds me of my church planting days from long ago! This was the second to last Sunday of the season… but I’m already looking forward to next year.

Tracie Little, Canon for the Southern Collaborative and Adult Formation

I was blessed to spend this morning celebrating the new pastoral relationship between St. John’s, Sturgis and the Rev. Kris Veldheer. They are powerfully engaged in their neighborhood, primarily supporting those who are homeless. Their weekly Friday Friendship lunch fed 70 people this past week. In addition, 11 people were able to shower – 10 of them stepping out of line to allow one person to go first as she had a job interview. She returned with the news that she got the job! They also made an appeal for bicycles which they are restoring and repairing and gifting to those who need transportation. What an absolute joy to see the Spirit at work in this place! An inspiring day, to be sure!
